About Us
About Nova ESL
Founded by a former ESL teacher from the UK and a Visa Manager from Beijing, Nova ESL has cross-cultural partnership at its core. Having worked closely with both teachers and employers, we are experienced in navigating cultural barriers and facilitating smooth communication between East and West.
We understand that beginning your new life in China is a big step – so we offer ongoing, one-to-one support throughout your visa application until you are settled into your new teaching position. We know that teachers are looking for reputable employers with competitive salaries, attractive benefits, and legal working visas – our schools are all quality-assured employers seeking enthusiastic teachers to join their establishments.
The Nova ESL team is passionate about travel and it is our wholehearted desire to help more people explore new countries and cultures. Our careers in ESL have provided us with the opportunity to travel the world, and we are eager to share this opportunity with you. We can’t wait to help you come to China and start (or continue) your adventure.
Meet Our Team

Zhengyi Liu
Founder
Zhengyi is a born-and-bred Beijinger who previously worked as a Foreign Teacher Manager and Visa Specialist. Though he claims to like travel, his colleagues assert that Zhengyi gets culture shock anywhere outside of Beijing’s 5th ring road. There is unanimous agreement that he loves Starcraft and motorbikes.

Bethany Charlotte Atkinson
Founder
Former ESL teacher from England, who previously worked in a Beijing public school. Enjoys disproving that a degree in English Literature won’t get you anywhere, as it has taken her to 20 countries and counting.

Liam Cushing
Recruiter
Liam is a recruiter based in the UK. When he is not assisting people with their move to China, he is likely to be on his own travels to Africa and Asia. Liam enjoys art, homebrewing and annual pilgrimages to Oktoberfest.

Eddie Xu
Foreign Teacher Management
Eddie is a Beijinger who is responsible for taking care of our local foreign teachers. He used to work in a restaurant run by his family where he developed great communication and the best BBQ skills in China. Eddie also likes cars and has a penchant for playing poker.

Miss Clementine
Employee of the Month
Miss Clementine joined our team at four weeks old when she was found abandoned in a garage. While her main areas of expertise include being fluffy and taking long snoozes, she also enjoys biting toes and destroying houseplants.

Nova ESL connects teachers to schools across China. Our mission is to promote understanding between East and West, and to help people experience all China has to offer. Founded by a former ESL teacher from the UK and a Visa Manager from Beijing, Nova ESL has cross-cultural partnership at its core.
